Crataegus Monogyna
Crataegus monogyna, commonly known as the hawthorn or single-seeded hawthorn, is a
staple in the diverse ecosystems of Albania. This hardy tree or shrub, native to Europe,
North Africa, and Western Asia, has long been intertwined with Albanian natural
landscapes and traditions.
Hawthorn is easily recognized by its glossy, serrated leaves and its iconic clusters of
white or pink flowers that bloom in spring. By autumn, these flowers give way to bright
red berries, known as haws, which are both visually striking and of considerable value
to wildlife
